Manitoulin Island is a “must see” destination as voted by thousands of Canadians

If you’ve gotten so far in your research on Manitoulin Island as a holiday destination as to read this short welcome note, you’re also well on your way to ticking off what many Canadians chose to put on their “bucket lists.”

Last spring, in the spirit of “see Canada first” the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) asked Canadians to nominate destinations that fellow travellers must visit at some point.

The objective was to create a “bucket list” of 10 unique places every Canadians should visit.

Very quickly, over 2,000 citizens nominated and championed their choices. Some were the quite specific, like the Gopher Hole Museum in Alberta.

The CBC, using the magic of algorithms, downsized the nominations to a list of 20 destinations and at that point, there was a national vote.

Manitoulin Island, Ontario’s Island Retreat, was one of the semi-finalists and then, after the votes were tallied, named one of the Top 10 destinations every Canadian should try to visit.

When you visit the largest freshwater island in the world, you’ll be in good company. Welcome.
